It's all about YOU today!

Today I'm going to try something I've not done before.

I invite all authors, artists, musicians that wander across this blog to add a comment to this post telling a bit about what you do, links to your work and basically take a little space to self-promote.

So tell my readers about yourself! I look forward to seeing what shows up :)

  1. Well, I guess I'm the first comment. Thanks very much for this opportunity, sir! I'm Carmen, and I'm a self-published author of a historical thriller titled 'Anne'. I published 'Anne' in July of 2013, and the plot involves a young, egotistical, orphaned girl in eighteenth-century England who lives an isolated, homeless existence, but she constantly dreams of attaining a better life as soon as possible. Because of her many lonely years living on the streets of London, Anne has a very rough persona and cares about her own well-being above all else. She's hardened by the need for self-preservation, and no matter what it takes to achieve her dream of a better, happier life, she will not stop until she gets what she wants.
Here are a couple of links where 'Anne' can be found:

  2. Hi,

Both books are about a special gauntlet which only works if one has a belief in a higher power. They are also about the Princess Camari whose faith grows as she has adventures with the gauntlet. 3. Early on, after I completed writing "Littluns" I had hoped that people would spread the word so that everyone would eventually read it, with the hope that it would inspire them enough to read THE BOOK God’s book, the Bible as it has for some. However, after seven years of marketing the book full-time, it looks like that won't happen beyond a couple of sales per year. But at least I did what God asked me to do, and maybe someday things will be different. I have no regrets, in fact just the opposite.

    The story behind "Littluns."

I had a calling from God. In my case He asked me to write "Littluns" designed to appeal to both Christian and secular, Young Adult, and adult readers, and of course to read together as a family. Because I wanted to create a very different reading experience, with quality only second to the Bible, it cost over six figures to do so in the USA. Quality can be very expensive. Because of the low selling price it looks like we will never recoup those costs. The loss of that money has cost me significantly, but God was always there providing all that I needed and continues to do so. How much more success could anyone want?

For those who have read "Littluns" their reactions and the awards won are more than I could hoped for. It is important to note that I never aspired to become an author and "Littluns" would never have happened if God didn't ask me to write it. I just had too much on my plate to even consider shifting gears, but that's what I did, shelving all my six other projects that took me over a decade to develop and worked full-time for three years, creating, writing, and doing all the color illustrations, to create a most different reading experience under God. So now, whatever happens I know that His way will be perfect with whatever He has in mind. For me this has been the greatest experience of my life and just another example of how God sometimes works in mysterious ways. And yes, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – The task ahead of us is never as great as the power He gives us to do so.

I thank God every day for all the gifts and abilities, and support He’s given me through the years and that He asked me, of all people, to write “Littluns.” What’s most exciting is the knowledge that whatever He had, and has in mind for “Littluns,” it will be perfect, even if He only wanted me to write it for Him and/or those who need to hear what God is saying to a world gone wrong, and in contrast, the knowledge in faith that "…thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven," for all to experience now and forever.

God Bless and Good Light to you.

    Mark

For those who have read "Littluns" (see reviews at http://www.littlunsblog.com) their reaction and the awards won are more than I could hoped for.

By way of introduction my professional history includes director, producer, and writer for family entertainment in the motion picture and television industries; a patented inventor; elected to six terms as a Governor for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and now author of the award winning "Littluns: And the Book of Darkness." 4. Good morning, J.D.

I came across your blog via Goodreads. Such a wonderful way to share your space to introduce artists. A sincere thank you.

I am currently taking a six month sabbatical from my day-to-day life — my nine to five, full-time job — in order to devote the time and energy necessary to undertake this enormous task of writing a novel that sheds light on the realities of growing up with domestic violence. And I'm already connecting so many dots...

An intense undertaking to be sure, but I am hoping in the end it will have been a very healing journey for me and that I can maybe even help a few others along on their paths to healing. These subjects tend to stay buried and I think that's what perpetuates the cycle, so I'd love to help blow the lid off that so to speak.

My memoir is titled, Cherry Lane, where we lived after fleeing from my father, and where I truly feel I lost the last of my innocence, while unknowingly growing a will as strong as iron to carve my way into this beautiful disaster of a world. I will be blogging my writing journey as I go while penning the initial manuscript if anyone is interested in following the dots along as they are being connected: http://www.mattrydeen.com/blog/

  5. Hi, I'm Kenneth Morvant and my latest book, "Demien" was released a few weeks ago by my publisher, eLectio Publishing. The tagline goes like this, "What if there was something worse than aliens found at Roswell?" A secret US agency enlists the assistance of British physicist and archaeologist, Professor Trevor Pendleton to unravel the mystery and save the world from two factions desiring to enslave the world before it's too late.

  7. Oh, this is awesome.

I recently released the third of three novellas about the zombie apocalypse (not exactly traditional zombies, mind). The stories are about what happens to people and society when civilization breaks down and only a random sample of humanity survives.

  8. Thanks for doing this! My book, Wounds of the Father: A True Story of Child Abuse, Betrayal, and Redemption, was published in February and is currently a bestseller! Here's the book description:

In the bestselling tradition of Smashed and Glass Castle, this raw, eye-opening memoir tells the powerful story of Elizabeth Garrison’s fractured childhood, descent into teenage drug addiction, and struggle to overcome nearly insurmountable odds. Elizabeth invites the reader behind the closed doors of a picture-perfect Christian family to reveal a dark, hidden world of child abuse, domestic violence, and chilling family secrets all performed in the name of God under the tyrannical rule of her father. Like countless teenage girls, Elizabeth turns to drugs and alcohol to escape. With smack-you-in-the-face honesty, Elizabeth chronicles the dark realities and real-life horrors of teenage drug abuse, living on the streets, foster homes, and treatment centers. She paints an unsparing portrait of scratching and clawing her way out of the grips of child abuse, addiction, and betrayal to find the strength within herself to save her own life.

  9. Good Day! I am Jordyn Meryl. My Bio: Once living under the guise of a passive, quiet, school librarian, books and kids were the passions which kept her mind fresh. One day she decided to spread her wings and live the dream of her heart. As she sits in front of her computer, her fingers bring to life the voices in her head. But it is when the night muses visit Jordyn, her spirit rises up to wrap around the stories that float in her dreams. Land locked in the mid-west she envisions days on a white sandy beach with a laptop to write all her tales. Crossing many genres she spins chronicles of romance, paranormal and fantasy, for they are stories worth telling, even at the risk of revealing true feelings.
I have self-published seven books. I can't label them all romance, because I have trouble staying the "Box", but there is always a love story. I genre jump because it's fun and where my head goes. I just finished a romantic Sci-Fi. My first novel was picked up by a small press, but they folded, so I am republishing it myself next month.
Visit my facebook page and find out where I am and what I am doing..

  11. Thanks for your generosity, Jeremy! My name is Jonathan Mitchell and I'm the author of "The Agent", an urban horror novel for Kindle. My ambition was to write a ghost story with a hard-boiled, existentialist flavor--and against the backdrop of a midsized city rather than a crumbling Gothic castle. I recommend it to fans of Peter Straub and Ross Macdonald alike.

  15. Hi Jeremy,
    Thank you for this opportunity.

I am an early retired teacher of physics.

I have written my first book; "Robots Like Blue" by Anthony J. Deeney

    http://www.amazon.com/Robots-Like-Blue-Anthony-Deeney-ebook/dp/B00NHWUQQ6/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&sr=&qid=

It is a science fiction exploration of the self, free will and "good and evil." However, I have been advised by independent readers that it has a strong emotional component and has a broad appeal. It is receiving good ratings on Amazon.

It will particularly appeal to fans of Asimov, Phillip K Dick etc.
It is most like "The Bicentennial Man" in so far it follows a self searching robot attached to a young family, but the events, plot and conclusion are very different.

I am writing two books just now, "First Born" a sequel and "Entangled Threads" a sci fi based on Quantum Mechanics.

    Hope readers enjoy the book.

  16. I envision this getting out of hand very soon! But allow me to jump in before this thread becomes a rope and hangs itself:

Fly through the Gateway to Gannah for some serious sci-fi adventure! When I say "serious," I don't mean it's serious science, but it delves into some serious spiritual topics within the framework of a story set in space.

This four-book series doesn't have a great number of reviews, but most are five stars. And each title is only 99 cents on Kindle, so what do you have to lose? Check it out for yourself at http://yswords.com/?page_id=398

Thank you for providing this forum!

  17. Hi, I've been writing seriously for over 10 years now, most of it concurrently with a 24-year career as a criminal lawyer. Not surprisingly my first novel, The Guilty, took readers on a behind the scenes trip through a murder trial. The story is about a lawyer who has spent much of his life doing anything he had to in order to win his cases, but comes to doubt his choices when he is hired to defend a man he believes to be guilty of a multiple-murder. For my second full-length novel, Face/Mask, I decided to move away from the legal profession, and take a look at our world in the near future, with a never-ending war on terror, out of control pollution and militaristic governments that trample on civil rights in the name of the national interest. It has been described as a dystopian novel in the tradition of 1984. If you go to Amazon you can take a "look inside" to get an idea of what each book is about.

  18. I am D.R. Oestreicher, Ph.D., retired herded of cats, K-12 substitute teacher, world traveler, and author. It's that latter descriptor that brings me here. I recently completed "Plague of Equals" with my spouse J. Oestreicher. We published under the Omega Cat Press imprint, a publishing enterprise founded in the early 1990s before electronic publishing took off. Omega Cat Press published Xenophilia, a journal of poetry and other books.

Plague of Equals is definitely not poetry. It is a a science thriller, a high IQ thriller about realistic scientists and a fictional plague, a fast moving challenge to save the human race with more PhDs than villains, plenty of women, and clear enough language for everyone to follow and enjoy.

I sometimes wonder if most readers would prefer familiar characters, mad scientists, absent-minded professors, and autistic nerds. For the future of the planet, I hope not. 21. Having been born in Soviet Estonia, I was about 30 when in the UK I first heard the name Kaplan mentioned in Hitchcock's "North by Northwest". It is in the spirit of the film's mystery that I am writing now, although my book is a biography. The subject matter, however, is intelligence. Thank you, Jeremy, for making it possible.
My book is the biography of Brian Giffey, a British intelligence officer, who spent a long time (1929-40) in Estonia, gathering information on the Soviet Union. In 1940 he was forced to leave because the Soviets occupied the country. He returned to London and later worked in the Middle East. The book is also a moving love story because, while in Tallinn, Giffey fell for an Estonian girl half his age, divorced his first, German, wife, and married the Estonian. At his insistence, however, the Estonian had to befriend the German ex-wife, and she did!

  22. After writing and editing adult non-fiction for years, I've entered Storyland with my grandchildren, Tommy and Tina.

"Scissortown," my first picture book for children, asks two questions.

First, “How would a small town—well-ordered and supremely manicured—look after invasion by a horde of pink-slippered ‘Slicers and Dicers’ who cause the townspeople to hide all their cutting implements?”

And then—“How does life go on when nobody can cut anything at all?”

Although it is pure fantasy, this story was written for another purpose besides entertainment—promotion of kindness and initiative in even the youngest of children. Two different inside back covers containing either a Faith-Based or a Life Application promote these qualities in the follow-up to this engaging tale.

My website also has a page where kids from 7-12 yrs can submit their own stories and artwork.

  23. I've been a working screenwriter in Los Angeles for 20+ years. I decided a couple years ago to write a novel. Happy to say that I published the novel last month. It's contemporary fiction about a young screenwriter who leaves his secure life in rural Pennsylvania, drives to Hollywood, and settles into the life of a budding screenwriter. Quite a roller-coaster ride! (People ask me if the story is autobiographical. I tell them, "97% of it is a work of fiction. And no, I'm not telling you with 3% is true.) Anyway, the book (available in paperback and Kindle) has been getting some very nice reviews and it seems to be selling well, so that's gratifying. Feel free to check it out. It seems hyperlinks don't work here, so just go to Amazon and type in LUIGI'S CHINESE DELICATESSEN. I think you'll really enjoy it. And many thanks for this outlet, JD!

  25. Hi JD,

thanks for the opportunity - I'm a newbie who lives in Hobart Tasmania and was recently made redundant, but hey, that just means I have more time to write!
Have published one ebook so far (two weeks ago) called Hide & Seek -- it's a contemporary romance set mostly in Malta where I spent a few months back in 2007. It's the story of not one but two holiday romances that go awry (as they do).

I used Ingram Spark to publish and distribute - easy to do but it's not possible to do much tweaking, their categories are rigid and I can't track how my book is selling. So next time I may take another route. Am currently working on a novella set in Rome where I have also spent time.

If anyone would like to review Hide & Seek, please contact me via my Good Reads page or via my website at www.kathygates.website

  26. Thanks for the opportunity to post on an interesting group of authors.
I finally decided to finish my novel which has been in my desk drawer for a number of years. It is called "The Stonegate Sword."
I always have trouble when the time comes to assign a genre to the book. I suppose the problem is that it does not fit neatly in the normal categories. This may have been a mistake. But I was not exactly aiming at an established audience. I mostly wrote the kind of book that I like to read. One reviewer commented at length about this very issue.

It is a tale about the future, a century or more in the future. So it is future history, but it does not fit comfortably in the "fantasy" genre, since most of those works have magic or mythological creatures. My book has none of that.

Is it science fiction? Not really. Nothing pushes the boundaries of science.

Is it dystopian? Well, yes. But it is not really a book about survivors struggling to survive the collapse of civilization, since that happened long ago.

Is it "Christian" literature? Yes. But faith is simply a part of the lives of some of the characters. It is essential to the plot, but it is not stereotypical of the genre.

Is it action/adventure? I think so. Action and adventure are what drives the plot. But somehow that is misleading, too.

How about romance? Yes, there is romance. But I think readers of romances might feel that this is not a fair description, either.

Is it historical fiction? There are certainly medieval battles, swords and armor enough for a knight's tale. But this is future history!

Another reviewer said that the natural world (the landscape, weather, and setting) was almost like a character in the novel. That was intentional. But it does not help categorize the writing.

I suppose it is a future historical romance Christian action/adventure fantasy dystopian epic novel. Sadly, no one has that category for me to choose. Oh, well. Read the book and you decide.

  29. Hi JD, thanks for the opportunity to mention my upcoming 1st novel, Wild Thing:

Abandoned by her parents due to a prophecy. Raised as an experimental test subject at the Institute for Paranormal Dysfunction. Taken by a covert agency to become their assassin. Now, unknowingly stalked by a magical construct seeking the special victim it needs to 'correct' human nature itself: will Leeth's future be experimental subject, government assassin, or humanity's doom?

Or can a young girl prove strong enough to forge her own Path, instead?

The cover and first chapter can be seen at Goodreads - Wild Thing. I've tagged it as: Magic, urban fantasy, sci fi, fantasy, adult themes, sexual content, some violence, young assassin, strong female lead. I'm striving to publish it via KDP by the end of May. Before that, though, I need to climb the steep self-publishing learning curve, and I'm sharing what I discover at my little blog A Toe In the Ocean of Books.

I'm also at work on a sequel over at the Online Writing Workshop for Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror, aiming to complete that by E/2015.

  30. Hey JD, thanks for the opportunity.

Ummm...hello. My name is Michael, aka wordboy...and I'm a writer.

As for who I am...What's there to say, really?

I'm a veteran retail wage slave with aspirations of literary adequacy.

I was born in New York and currently live in Central Florida (aka The Land That Time Remembered). I discovered science fiction at an early age, growing up on Star Trek, Lost In Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Captain Scarlet and The Thunderbirds. I've always had an active imagination; I always played with the toys I got for Christmas and my birthday but I had more fun playing with the boxes. I actually started writing in 1975, putting together some truly horrendous Space:1999 fan fiction. (Emphasis on horrendous. Fortunately, all copies have been destroyed.) I started writing seriously the day after I saw Star Wars. To be honest, I wouldn't be writing today if it hadn't been for my tenth grade English teacher. Writing is the only thing that keeps me sane, and I'm happiest when I'm writing.

Now, a bit about my fictional universe...all of my stories take place in one universe, with one consistent time line. The history of this just slightly different from our own universe starts about 13.8 billion years plus one day in the past, all the way to about the year 7869. The stories range from fantasy to science fiction and all points in between.

    The books are...
WITH EYES OPEN... - Mira Frayne thought she was going to make a change in her life, to try and make a better life for herself. Her life did change...but not in any way that she expected. She learns there is more to the world than she ever believed, a discovery she would deal with far into the future.

CAMPFIRE STORIES - Campfire Stories is a collection of eight stories, ranging from the far distant past to the not-too-distant future. These are stories of self-discovery, exploration and duty, and the consequences of each.

A BRIGHT SYMMETRY - A Bright Symmetry is a series of stories set over the course of a year, stories of life, death and rebirth. An archaeological expedition leads immortal Scott Madigan to reassess and change his llife...though nothing compares to the changes undergone by his lover, Zoe Baird.

THE FAULT LIES NOT... - In the late twenty-sixth century, a serial killer roams the city of Naufolk. It's up to EarthGov Security Special Agent Lin Sillo and her partner, Special Agent Vincent DeBurg, to stop him. But is there something behind the murders, something that reaches far beyond the city?

RAE - EarthGov Security Special Agent Kevin Martin and his partner, Probationary Agent Rachael (Rae) Mercer, thought they had been assigned an open-and-shut case. A murder had been committed on the colony of Haven and local law enforcement already had a suspect in custody, with enough evidence to ensure a conviction. Things begin to spin out of control when Rae is severely beaten and Kevin is accused of the attack. Who is trying to stop the murder investigation? What is connection between the suspect and the victim? How does the secret Rae is keeping tie into it?

ON A COLD WIND - The story of Caralynn (Carly) Adrasteia, an agent of EarthGov Security in the late twenty-second century begins. As an Enhanced Human, a group of humans engineered to have superior physical and mental abilities, she is subject to hatred and discrimination while continuing to work for the improvement of her people's situation. Along with her partner, Special Agent Murphy Greenfield, she is assigned to track down two escaped criminals who threaten a newly established colony. One of the criminals, Efhram Bartok, is also an Enhanced Human who wants to incite a revolution and lead the Enhanced Humans to freedom. There is a link between Carly and Bartok, one that only Carly's division director knows.

All six books are available from Smashwords, Kindle, iTunes, NOOK and CreateSpace. Find the links on my website, Wordboy's Words - http://wordboy1.wix.com/wordboyswords#!books/cnec
